This is what I love about the Dead. This was transcendental, emotional, beautiful. I rocked, I cried. The boys are on point. The set list is amazing. The crowd's energy is top notch.

Some folks had bad cop experiences here it seems. I never did and went to 3 or so runs at the Omni. The weather was always warmer and Atlanta typically had a rep as a good party town. Unlike east Rutherford, Hartford and north- places I tried to avoid. Now Greensboro, set up like a bowlin pin!

A friend of mine wanted to keep the set list. So I gave him my little notepad & pen before the 1st set started. We had both dosed before the show & were just starting to feel it, ya know? Anyway, at the set break I asked to see the set list. All he had written was "shake". I was like, 'Yep, that pretty much covers that first set"!!! I decided to keep the set list for the 2nd set!

Enjoy the shows but Atlanta is the absolute worse city to ever host a show (sorry Dallas). Cut my foot on the sharp remains of a steel parking meter pole, I walk into the nearby CNN mall and see a cop. All I did is ask if there was a first aid station in the mall. All he said is get the f out now or I'm going to arrest you. Fortunately they opened the doors for the show right after that, so I went in like 4 hours early and the real nice nurse at the Omni's first aid station bandaged me up and sent me away with extra bandages and a "Have a fun safe show!". Then the last night- we were one of the first groups out of the show (long drive home) and the cops were already assembled on this big outdoor staircase in full riot gear- shields, helmets, batons. Fortunately I was with a decent size group because the aholes were picking single folks and literally beating them with clubs. We got the f out of there as fast as we could.

Fat sounding, a B- set-list. But they seem on top of their game. I dig the Bobby section in the 1st set more than I used too. I just dig Picasso Moon more than I ever thought I would. I used to despise it really. I also love the Scarlet > Crazy Fingers a rarity I'd assume. Yea dude Jerry's guitar is SMOKING and Brent is just dressing it on right along with Garcia enjoying for the ride. Billy and Phil are locked in and Bobby's always down to burn joints like The Omni in Atlanta down to the ground. Playing In The Band gets the body moving and Brent does hold Going Down The Road. I woulda preferred a Mississippi Half Step in the first set as opposed to We Can Run (Sleep). Its Sound is 4 star & the Set-list is 3-2 Star in my opinion. Peace, love and Grateful Dead.

Subject: Final Winter/Spring
This is last of the 16 shows of the well-regarded Winter/Spring '90 tour. Overall the tour is equal to the best tours of '89 & '91 (though this isn't the best '90 tour). The end of a 3-day run, it's neither the best of the run (4/1), nor in the top half of the tour (best overall is 3/18, least is 3/19, best set is 3/29), but it has the smooth, stadium, well-produced and professional sound that would show up on some tours as easily as it disappeared in '88>'91. As with all shows of the tour, it has some great stretches.
First Set. Not a jawdropper Shakedown, but great for an opener. Tight, brisk. Bobby squeaks and hiccups his way through Hellina (and the set), diminishing the listenability. Jer is on the money but pretty economical, as seen in the smooth-but-no-fireworks Sugaree. There are problems launching We Can Run, but then it gels okay. The rest is average '90, save a too loose Picasso. Promised Land is nice instead of a LiG, but it's the end of a smooth-albeit-lackluster set, save for Brent, who is on fire, and great drumming.
Second Set. Estimated is another savvy opener. Again it's not very inventive, with Jer leaning on repeated phrases. The jam is fine. As others have pointed out, this Scarlet is great - the peak of the night. Space is a good one (as it often was in '90), but goes into Take You Home. A lot of Heads say this just doesn't fit coming out of Space, and I tend to agree. Hoot owl hoots? Why yes; yes it does. Nonetheless [well, some], Brent had it dialed at this point. The second peak is this whopping Goin' Down the Road. Bobby is worth focusing upon. It's slick but warm, and uptempo. And, as others have noted, Brent is again the show's MVP. The rest is above average, like most of the tour, ending with the second We Bid You Goodnight.
1st Set: C
2nd Set: B-
Overall = 3 stars
Highlights:
Scarlet Begonias - maybe best of tour
Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad - Brent carries
SOURCES: The 135201.bltz AUD is better, and more "matrixy" than the MTX. The SBD isn't the best from the tour but suffices. Officially on Spring 1990 TOO.

I looked this show up because I was there and still remember how I felt after it ended. GDTRFB was possibly the best I ever heard Brent play. Certainly is my most memorable.
Other general thoughts: I haven't streamed on archive.org for many years, and joined just now to favorite this show. it would be great if we could comment on a show while streaming, without the show stopping. Just a thought! <3 Otherwise, thanks for the resource!

Always fine times & spacey goodness in Atlanta. Testimony to their endurance that they could pull off this level of playing at the end of the tour. All else has been said in the prior reviews. Just to clarify the sound - the 1st set is screwed. There is some machine related oscillation/noise that is in the background for the majority if not all of the 1st set. The source changes a number of times as well. Even so, IMO the Audiences are just not good enough to replace the board with. which I can not figure since all of this tour was done w/ HQ results by many tapers. Much better sources exist both Aud. & BD. I suspect that no respect for Atlanta has them in the back of closets. Probably not long for this world after the box set anyway.
Good news - 2nd set the noise is gone, and it is a nice recording. Still a little muted on the high end but perfectly good. NIce line-up and a worthy addition. Cops played music with heads in the lot, entertaining the aged locals. Miss the way the scene could expand the consciousness of the unsuspecting, but from that cup no more. 3 1/2 up to 4 for set II

Great opening sequence - shakedown through sugaree - there is no real coming up for air there. I do also like the cold start Estimated in the 2nd starting out with some good improv keys. Then the boys throw in some curveballs with the >Scarlet and >Crazy Fingers. I always loved when they tried those types of changes out.
A very good tour ending off with all solid shows at the Omni. Good 4 star show.

You know, I am having a hard time getting the "Mud" out of the middle of this recording. Sounds like many cassette masters that had Dolby added afterward, or otherwise were degraded in copies. Also the cymbals sound clipped on the high end, I had to really boost the 8 & 16K, while turning down 1K.
Excellent Shakedown St., Estimated, Space - but spent 10 minutes at my EQ and I'm still not fully there yet.

i remembered this as being a pretty good show...maybe a bit better than the previous two nights. listening to it again confirms that I remember correctly. shakedown is good, and scarlet>crazy fingers>playin' is a highlight. the jam out of playin'is pretty smooth stuff. four for sound and performance with nostalgia potentially influencing my rating.

Great Spring tour, The band where beginning to sound abstract, combining dry, harder playing in contrast to depth and liquid.Very tight and streamlined. The whole tour is worth the download,As for quality this show is 4.5,with Nassau tops and Hartford being the weak sister.

This is by far the BEST space EVER!!!! Mickey Hart is amazing, this space just blows every other space I have ever heard out of the water, and if anyone disagrees please point me in the direction of a better one. It's just so damn trippy. The most insane thing is that the boys can go from the most hard core trippy shit straight into lame-ass I Will Take You Home without flinching. An amazing show well worth the download. 10+

I am sorry but, IMHO, this is not a 5 star show in any way. The sound is muffled, and Weir's guitar is barely audible. Performance-wise, it is not a 5 star show either. IMHO, I think this may be the weakest show of the Spring 1990 run. I have a hard time giving it 4 stars (based more on sound than the performance), but after all even the weakest of the Spring 1990 shows were still damn good shows.

Typical HOT Spring 90 show!! Shakedown, Bucket is an insane way to start. Promised Land has always been my favoorite 1st set closer and its nice. Very interesting way to kick off the 2nd set: Estimated > Scarlet > Crazy Fingers > Playin. Rare to see Estimated open the 2nd set. I'm a HUGE Brent fan so I have always liked Take You Home. GDTRFB is a treat, as always, along with Bid You Goodnight. Great SBD and is definately worth downloading.

Get this now! Another of dozens of great shows from spring and summer 1990. Awesome sound quality and some incredible playing. First set really rocks but pre drums just smokes! Scarlet is one of the best ones I've heard. You can just about picture Jerry's eyebrows going as he rips thru this song. Did not see this show but heard raves about it. Thought Albany a week before would be hard to beat, and this one comes close.

This show was my personal fav of this sick 3-night run! The first set is solid thru and thru with a chunky Shakedown opener and other nice versions of sugaree and jimmy.
The second set is outstanding, with an unusual opening Esti>Scarlet>Crazy!! The post-drumz smokes and the Bid You Goodnight was a real treat to end this run!
Download both the board and the aud and enjoy.

This was my first live show and I'm pleased to report that I was not disappointed one bit. Playing is very tight throughout, very rockin' in places and with some great improvisational work too. Jerry is in top form all around. An unusual song order for set two makes this even better, and the Bid You Goodnight encore is a treat. The only letdown for me was when they played I Will Take You Home in the second set, which I remember was my least favorite song at the time. All in all, this is one of several very good and great sounding 1990 shows that you simply must have.
